My Favorite Things: Urban Decay Eyeshadow

July 9, 2011

This shit is awesome. Urban Decay makes some of the best eyeshadow out there. It’s heavily pigmented to you get a real punch of color and they never seem to run out. You can get a bit of a glitter fallout storm, but I have fallout issue with a lot of eyeshadow.

Midnight Cowboy: one of their most popular shades, Midnight Cowboy is a brown-toned champagne color with a ton of silver glitter flecks. It’s kind of like sin, but with sparkle. Lots and lots of sparkle.

Sin: Sin is a classic pinky champagne shimmer. It’s great to wear alone on light makeup days: it blends in with the skin a bit but the shimmer makes it stand out to just the right degree. Sin: description

Toasted: Toasted is a light/medium tan shimmer. It gives a great doe eyed/big eyed look when worn with a  brown eyeliner like Urban Decay’s Bourbon. (It looks a bit plummy in this palette but that’s mostly because it’s next to Hustle.)

Half Baked: Half Baked is a light gold shimmer. For some reason, people describe this as bronze, but it’s not. It’s true gold. Looks amazing with blue eyes.

Baked: Baked is a rich gold shimmer, a darker version of Half Baked. Gold- not bronze, gold. I get compliments every time I wear it.

Twice Baked: Twice Baked is a dark brown shimmer with tiny multicolored glitter. It’s a little muddy, so it doesn’t have a lot of depth to it, but it’s still a nice brown.

Strip: Strip is a light slate blue shimmer. It’s almost grey, but not quite. It’s lovely with a navy blue eyeliner.

S&M: S&M is a light/medium grey shimmer. It’s excellent for a smokey eye, and it goes great with Gunmetal.

Smog: Smog is a deep bronze shimmer. Now, this is bronze. Makes for a great brown-toned smokey eye. Also looks great with blue eyes.

Gunmetal: Gunmetal is a dark grey shimmer with some silver glitter. It’s fabulous for a classic smokey eye, and it goes very well with S&M.

Flipside: Flipside is an iridescent teal shimmer. It’s a gorgeous shade and it goes great with every eye color. It’s just so pretty!

And now ze swatches (in no particular order):

This is the Get Baked palette, which I believe came out in the fall of 2009. It has Twice Baked, Half Baked, Flipside, and Baked.

This is the lovely Flipside. shiny shiny :)

This is Twice Baked. You can see the sparkly goodness here.

Twice Baked and Flipside. I believe there is also a 24/7 eyeliner called Flipside

I don’t know why I don’t have single swatches of these but here’s Half Baked ( on the top) and Baked (on the bottom)

here’s Gunmetal.

here’s Gunmetal (on the top) compared with S&M (on the bottom)

here’s Strip (on the bottom) compared with S&M (on the top)

a single of Strip

here’s a single of Midnight Cowboy…

and here’s a closeup of it in the pan. did you know that Urban Decay eyeshadow pans are supposed to look like subway tokens? it took me forever to realize that.

here’s Toasted (my very favorite brown)

here’s a single of Smog

and here is Smog (top) versus Baked (middle) versus Half Baked (bottom).

Like I said, Urban Decay makes an amazing eyeshadow, and these are just the shades I have. They make over 50 shades. Wear them with Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion- you’ll get at least 8 hours of wear.

Hump Day Swatch: Set The Mood

June 22, 2011

Happy Hump Day everyone! 2 more days to go! Or one in my case, since I don’t have class on Fridays :D

Today’s polish is Sephora by OPI Set the Mood, which is a difficult to describe pink. See for yourself:

Here’s a link to The Nailphile’s swatches of the collection this polish came from:

And here are Vampy Varnish’s swatches:

Also, in case you were unaware, Wednesday is Hump Day because it’s the hump in the middle of the week- once you get over it, the week doesn’t seem quite so long.

Sunday Swatches I

June 19, 2011

Happy Sunday everyone! From now on, I’ll be doing a set of swatches a week (posting a preview on Sunday and posting a new one every day) until I complete my collection, which is about 130 bottles (and I’m always adding more.) This week’s polishes:

Essie’s Dive Bar is a bluish green that’s almost black toned, but not quite. It seems to be exclusive to Essie’s mass retail carriers, like Meijer and Target. If you like deep teal shades, Dive Bar is worth the hunt.

Zoya Freja is a mid toned smokey grey. There’s not a hint of blue or black in this shade. It’s like a lighter version of China Glaze’s Black Diamond.

Sephora by OPI Set the Mood is a slightly dark pink. It’s shimmery but it has kind of a cloudy feel to it- it’s interesting. Available exclusively through Sephora.

China Glaze Strawberry Fields is a very happy medium pink with gold flecks (I believe it’s called glass flecked). It’s like bubblegum with glitter, but it’s still appropriate for grown women :).

China Glaze Riveter Rouge is a rusty red with large gold glitter flecks. It’s like a lighter, sparklier version of Foxy, from the same China Glaze collection.

China Glaze Hey Sailor! is a slightly orangey red creme. It’s a great, very classic color. It reminds me of Revlon’s Fire & Ice campaign from the ’50’s.

OPI Kinky in Helsinki is a medium pink. It’s really a fuschisa, with its slight purple tone. It’s a bit like a darker version of Set the Mood.
